Carvoeiro by Night

Carvoeiro, until recently a small fishing village, has lost little of its original charm. Today, the village extends to the surrounding hillsides with a combination of beautifully designed individual villas, low rise holiday apartments and a number of extensive holiday complexes which cater for all needs. The three main streets of the village are lined with a wonderful selection of restaurants, bars and tourist shops. Happily, many examples of the quaint old fishermen's cottages remain, dotted between more modern additions.
Golf Course
Two excellent 18 hole golf courses at Gramacho and Pinta along with a 9 hole par 3 course at Vale do Milho are located just outside the village and a number of well managed Tennis Centres are also within easy reach.
Tourists find that Carvoeiro has a magnetic appeal and choose to return year after year, many have decided to acquire property, the attraction of its beautiful coastline, many beaches and friendly Portuguese hosts being influencing factors. Some of the beaches are sheltered by high cliffs whilst others extend for many kilometers. Beaches to visit are Praia de Centianes , Praia de Carvalho , Praia de Benagil , Praia de Marinha , Praia da Albandeira and Praia do Canerios , all within 10 minutes drive.
Ferragudo
Near to Carvoeiro is the village of Ferragudo , happily still a traditional fishing village. Closeby you will find Porches , yet another unspoiled village which has a number of interesting potteries displaying an extensive selection of hand crafted goods which most visitors find hard to resist.
Silves, the former capital of the Algarve must not be missed with its well preserved castle remains, famous fish restaurants, Saturday farmers market and riverside walks.
Armação de Pêra , with its lovely promenade boasts one of the longest sandy beaches along the Algarve. Take a stroll to the eastern end and you will find many gaily painted fishing boats, which daily deliver their catches of fresh fish to the numerous restaurants and market. |
| All along the Algarve you can experience traditional cuisine at its very best in one of the many restaurants, some adjacent to the beach offering breathtaking sea views.
The mountains of Monchique with spectacular views are easily reached within a 30 minutes drive. There you will find an abundance of craft shops with their own uniquely designed range of pottery, basketware and traditional Portuguese costume. On the drive up to Monchique you will be tempted to stop at one of the many roadside stalls where local farmers display their fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables. Try to include time for lunch at one of the many restaurants, renowned for their spicy chicken piri-piri and other traditional delicacies.
Slide and Splash, a large water fun park is located only minutes away from Lagoa, where children and adults can both enjoy its many attractions.
Another must for families is Zoomarine with its assortment of performing and rare sea creatures, also providing you with the rare opportunity and unforgettable experience of swimming with the performing dolphins.
With the newly completed motorway link, Faro airport can normally be reached in 45mins. A comfortable driving time to Lisbon is approximately 3 hours.

The Algarve is famous for its beaches and coastline and it is still possible to find a quiet stretch of beach just a short drive from your holiday villa.
Praia do Carvoeiro
A very pretty beach, but this can get very busy in the peak season. Shops and restaurants are handy to pick up your lunch, ices for the children or drinks. There are sun beds and sunshades available in summertime for a modest cost. |

This usually quiet beach is situated up the hill to the right of the town beach, passing Sally's Bar and following the road to the right. Park overlooking the beach which is reached down quite a few steps so you have to be fit! |

A lovely beach with plenty of space when the tide is out - recently extended with some old cliff removed (to make it safe). There is a good fish restaurant O Stop, overlooking the beach. |

Steps are down to this beach and through a tunnel in the rocks. All worthwhile for the lovely sandy sheltered beach when you are there - and interesting walks in the vicinity. |

Another nice beach with beach restaurant/snack bar. You can relax under your sunshade and watch the fishing boats passing. Sun beds and sunshades are available in summer and there is a kiosk selling fruit and ice creams.
