The coastal village resort of Ferragudo retains its charm and tranquility and yet boasts numerous bars, restaurants and shops ensuring a busy atmosphere (but not too noisy) in the warm evenings. The beach is just a couple of minutes walk and is rated as one of the best on the Algarve and if you are looking for activities Praia Grande has jet skis, water skiing and numerous other water sports available. You could try the jeep safari into the Monchique mountain range or the international marinas at Lagos and Portimão. There are a number of historic places worth a visit including Lagos , Silves and Loule. Also there are water parks and the marine zoo nearby. For those seeking late night action Praia de Rocha is a 10 minute taxi drive and has casinos and lots of bars and discos that stay open till very late.
Marina do Portimao
The area is a golfer's paradise with the Championship course at Penina, Alto within a 5-10 minute drive and over 25 top class courses within one hours drive. Two excellent 18 hole golf courses at Gramacho and Pinta and new Golf course in Silves are just outside the village and a number of well managed Tennis Centres are also within easy reach.
Praia da Rocha beach
A short journey away is the larger and more lively resort of Praia da Rocha, top location overlooking the largest stretch of sand in the Algarve . The tree-promenade has a wide selection of shops, and boutiques to suit everyone's taste. At night the resort comes alive with an array of bars and nightlife along the "strip". For those who are feeling lucky, why not have a flutter in the casino?
Silves, the former capital of the Algarve must not be missed with its well preserved castle remains, famous fish restaurants, Saturday farmers market and riverside walks.

| All along the Algarve you can experience traditional cuisine at its very best in one of the many restaurants, some adjacent to the beach offering breathtaking sea views.
The mountains of Monchique with spectacular views are easily reached within a 30 minutes drive. There you will find an abundance of craft shops with their own uniquely designed range of pottery, basketware and traditional Portuguese costume. On the drive up to Monchique you will be tempted to stop at one of the many roadside stalls where local farmers display their fresh fruit, nuts and vegetables. Try to include time for lunch at one of the many restaurants, renowned for their spicy chicken piri-piri and other traditional delicacies.
Slide and Splash, a large water fun park is located only minutes away from Ferragudo, where children and adults can both enjoy its many attractions.
Another must for families is Zoomarine with its assortment of performing and rare sea creatures, also providing you with the rare opportunity and unforgettable experience of swimming with the performing dolphins.
With the newly completed motorway link, Faro airport can normally be reached in 45mins. A comfortable driving time to Lisbon is approximately 3 hours.

The Algarve is famous for its beaches and coastline and it is still possible to find a quiet stretch of beach just a short drive from your holiday villa.
Praia dos Caneiros, Ferragudo.
Another nice beach with beach restaurant/snack bar. You can relax under your sunshade and watch the fishing boats passing. Sun beds and sunshades are available in summer and there is a kiosk selling fruit and ice creams. |

A very pretty beach, but this can get very busy in the peak season. Shops and restaurants are handy to pick up your lunch, ices for the children or drinks. There are sun beds and sunshades available in summertime for a modest cost. |
